If you have endometriosis or PCOS – what the heck, if you have hormones (please tell me you have hormones?) – this smoothie is for you!

I was schlepping through my supermarket a couple of nights back when piles of branches stopped me in my tracks. Nope, they weren’t scattered across the produce aisle floor barricading my path – they were being sold, like on the shelf sold!

The branch fingertips ended in little dollops of beige fruit. My interest was peaking. So cute. So intriguing. So in my trolley. But first…

I checked the label. Longan fruit. What the?

So I did the only thing any self-respecting Nutrient Detective would do, I googled the s*%# out of those little mysteries.

I was super excited to see “superfood” pop up onto my iPhone screen (thanks to some swift Google Ninja moves in my supermarket aisle). But then it dawned on me. Every bloody second food is a “superfood” these days. So I dug a little deeper. Or should I say, climbed the tree higher for the juicier info up top? Too far? Yeah you’re right, I’m sorry.

What I found in the dark recesses of scientific literature where bigger words hang out that are grittier in my mouth and more fun to try to pronounce than “superfood”, what I found in the depths of real knowledge really excited me.

Longan’s have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a tonic for sexual health. My mind went into a mini happiness breakdance at this point. I started to ponder. So could this be used as a remedy for dysfunctions of reproductive organs – like could this little ball of sweetness help to manage endometrial growth?

Well it seems like it. Qi stagnation in the liver is common in women with endometriosis and other reproductive conditions, causing dampness which can lead to candida and other nasty overgrowths of bad bugs. Stagnation doesn’t allow fresh nutrients around the body and rejuvenation of blood. Longan is a warming fruit (like lychees) and can help to move this stagnation.

The grape-like fruit is a great source of vitamins A and C and minerals magnesium, iron, phosphorous and potassium, making a great stress remedy too. Awesome.

So I did what any self-respecting health nut would do – I created a smoothie to boost sexual health.

How?
Peeled a big pile of longan fruit and chucked it into a blender (coulda been 8-10 longans)
Added filtered water, and what?
Three sprigs of mint leaves and stalks, yeah but what else?
Watercress leaves and stalks, yeah but how many (well hell, I dunno! I’m only human – chuck in a handful)
Butter lettuce leaves went in next, same story as above? You betcha!
A smooshed banana (don’t push your luck – I don’t know how big it was)
1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and
Juice and rind of half a lemon.
I topped it with passionfruit so it looked cute as hell. Yeah, you’re welcome.

Ps. I use cleavers tea, Qi detox yoga, acupuncture and my lymph detox techniques to also help with Qi stagnation.

Even Max wanted some Longan Lovin’ but I wasn’t sharing with no one. Except my baby sister Possum, I even peeled them for her – she’s a special sort that one.
